A friend of my husband's was killed recently doing his duty in the Army. His loss will be felt by many. I did not him well and had, in fact, only met him a handful of times. Each and every time, though, he was with his two beautiful daughters and when I think of him I think of what a great father he was. I am heartbroken for their loss and for the void their mother must be feeling.

I am angered beyond belief, though, to know that his funeral was invaded and protested by a vile group. This group is organized as a church, but is like no church I know. I am quite certain that it is not Christlike to picket the funerals of soldiers and harass the bereaved families. I refuse to name the group and I refuse to link to them because they sicken me so much.

Please, keep this family in your prayers at this difficult time that was made even more so by awful people trying to push an agenda in a heartless and disgusting way.

10 Reasons Why I Miss My Soldier: The Winter Edition

1. The bed doesn't get warm fast enough with just me in it. I have had to resort to heated rice bags.

2. I am now on a 24/7 snow shoveling duty whereas before I got breaks when he was home.

3. Watching the snow by candlelight (all the blinds open) just isn't as magical when I am alone.

4. Who is supposed to grab a gallon of milk on the way home now?

5. It is not as satisfying to cook that big pot of chili just for myself.

6. Friends must now stand in as the late night chatter receiver.

7. I am going to be expected to play in the snow whereas before that was a daddy (fun) duty.

8. The holidays. 'Nuff said.

9. Snowball fights with someone who intentionally lets me win.

10. Did I mention the shoveling?

Sink or Swim

These are the ramblings of an army wife and mother working to keep the family afloat on the turbulent waters of life.

Deployments and secondary infertility are just two of the things between us and the life boats, but I have a feeling we will get there in time.
